Amsterdam is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Europe and one of our favourite small cities in the world. A city of character and enchantment, it is rich in culture, beautiful scenery and is constantly buzzing with exciting things to do from the world famous museums to the scenic Canal Cruises. Despite its busy nature, it also has a romantic quality to it; a sense of intimacy that allows you to forget all your troubles. After our recent visit we decided to put together a list of our favourite things to do here.
As a place characterised by its famous canals, we loved exploring the city by boat, passing all of the city’s highlights in the most relaxing and memorable way possible. The colourful houseboats and beautiful scenery made it a most pleasurable experience.
Anne Frank Huis
A site not be to missed, Anne Frank’s House was both touching and melancholy. We took a wander around the furnished spaces where we were able to have a look at Anne’s reconstructed bedroom along with her actual diary. The secret annex was the most fascinating of all, a place where Anne and many others hid out in complete silence during the days before they were sent to their deaths.
We also took a trip to the Netherland’s top art museum where we enjoyed seeing a stunning collection of antique objects, paintings, photography and prints. Having existed for more than two hundred years, it was simply breath taking in nature and definitely worthwhile.
