There’s nothing more lovely than a wedding on a bright, crisp autumn day – but what’s a wedding guest to wear? We reveal the art of special-occasion style as the weather cools down… Is it still T-Shirt weather? Is my floral skirt redundant for another year now? And is it too early for my 180 denier tights? These questions become all too frequent during these in-between early autumn days. And that’s before the quandary of choosing a wedding look. Don’t get me wrong, picking what to wear to someone’s special day is one of life’s little pleasures. There’s something about a day filled with love, tiered cake, great company and dad-dancing that fills us with excitement.
Coordinating with the weather, however, can be quite the task: Who needs extra dress stress when there’s cake to be thinking about? The main problem is that, in October, something switches in our sartorial mindset and we can’t help but feel that burgundy, black and grey clothing should be the norm (with colurful sunshine hues relegated to the back of my wardrobe for another six months). But where is it written that come autumn, primary shades and summery florals have had their moment in the proverbial sun? We’re not quite in the realms of winter florals just yet although we might be making a few advance investments.
Keeping this liberating attitude in mind, planning an outfit for a friend’s autumn wedding became much easier and I opted for my favourite Havren Piped Tweed Pencil Dress, this lovely tweed structured dress is sleeveless and tailored at the waist with contrasting black piping to create a strong feminine silhouette. Although it could be described as workwear thanks to its structure, it’s actually perfect for pairing with a cropped cardigan, or the matching jacket and a sneaky pair of nude tights if necessary.
Plus, all of the multi-tonal tweed makes it uber-easy to match-up with your existing accessories. Finally, a slick of ruby red lipstick can work some serious confidence wonders and can take a look from day to night. Trust us on this, you’ll be wedding-ready in no time – now where’s the cake?
